Hello! I faced an issue with fitting of FT-EXAFS data (Rh@zeolite) with Artemis. There is one distinct peak located at ~1.1 angstron. The intensity is comparable to the nearby peak of Rh-O scattering. I wonder the peak (~1.1A) is a real peak or just noise. Raw data is enclosed. Another question is why S02 can be negative in data fitting with Artemis. Cheers, Huaming

There are some issues with fitting FeNi DAC parameters using fdmnes.

Hello! I am a graduate student. When using Fdmnes to fit FeNi DAC, I found that the fitted peaks do not match the experimental peaks very well. The main issue is that the two transition peaks in the experiment merge into a single peak in the fitted curve. First of all, thank you very much for your help. If you could help me adjust the parameters, I would be happy to send you the experimental data for you to take a look. Best of luck!

Help for checking my EXAFS fitting

Hello, I am a graduate student working on Ge and Sn K-edge XAS measurements. I have performed some EXAFS fitting in Artemis, but I am not fully confident that my analysis is correct since my sample is a bit complex. I was wondering if anyone with expertise in EXAFS fitting might be willing to look over my results. Strange low-r peak in Pt foil EXAFS

Dear All, My target is the L3-edge of Pt foil and Pt-contained high-entropy alloy. In the Pt foil L-edge FT-EXAFS (k range: 3-20 A-1), there is a strange peak lower than the first near neighboring peak. This low-r peak makes confused because I did not found in other metal foil spectra. Also this peak cannot be reduced by increasing the Rbkg value. When I decrease the k range, this strange peak disappears with phase shift. In the Pt-contained high-entropy alloy, this strange peak becomes more pronounced than the 1st NN. Shifting FDMNES spectra for comparison between multi-site and single-site runs

Hello everyone, I’m running FDMNES calculations, and I have the following situation: Run A: Multi-site calculation with 3 non-equivalent positions. FDMNES internally applies epsii shifts, and I merge the per-site spectra — the merged spectrum is correct internally, meaning the relative positions between sites are preserved. Run B: Single-site calculation with 1 non-equivalent position. My goal is to compare the merged spectrum from Run A with the single-site spectrum from Run B. The challenge: because FDMNES aligns energies internally per run, the merged spectrum from Run A is not correctly referenced to the same absolute energy scale as Run B. My question: What is the recommended way to shift the merged multi-site spectrum from Run A so that it can be meaningfully compared with a completely different single-site calculation? Is it acceptable to use the position of a peak B, WL, etc, for a rigid shift, and are there best practices for doing this while preserving the internal relative positions of the merged spectrum? Dear Colleagues, The upcoming Symposium on Data-Driven Approaches in X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy, is presently accepting abstracts for oral presentations and registration is open. The symposium aims at bringing together researchers in the field of x-ray absorption spectroscopy, machine learning, and computational modelling. This symposium will focus on recent developments in data-driven and machine learning techniques for the interpretation of XANES and EXAFS spectra, enabling new insights into materials structure and dynamics from large complex operando/in situ datasets. Larch 2025.3.0

Hi Folks, A new version of Larch and the Larix GUI are now available for download and for automated update. The last message about Larch 2025.2.0 was in late May, though there were updates pushed on in late July too. Since then, there have been many updates and improvements, especially to the Larix GUI. A more complete list of changes is at https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://github.com/xraypy/xraylarch/releases/tag… (and see https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://github.com/xraypy/xraylarch/releases/tag… too), but a few of the most obvious changes include: * The “List of Groups/Files” in Larix and many related “List of Groups” windows have a richer set of options with the Right Mouse Button. All these actions also now have "keyboard shortcuts" or "accelerators" (Ctrl- / Alt- keys) that do most actions to move and select groups. This allows much faster and easier manipulation of the list of datasets. * Configuring lotting options such as linewidths, colors, themes, and so forth is easier and better. The "plot" tab is "Edit Preferences" now has (only) a "Save Plot Configuration" to save the configuration of the current Plot Window #1 (to the file ".larch/wxmplot.yaml"). From the Plot Window, you can configure these settings (themes, colors, etc) for any plot. When you are happy with those, saving them from the Larix Preferences window will save those settings for future sessions. * Saving and Loading Session Files is more robust, and saving will happen in the background, without hanging the main window. * The main Larix window now has a Title (ie, “Top Window Bar”) that shows the name of the “Current Session File”. You can change that with “Save Session As”. The Plot Windows (or most of them anyway) will have Titles that show this Session File name and the name of the Analysis Panel or Data Task window that generated the plot. If you are running 2 Larix sessions, this makes it much easier to tell what windows go together. * On startup, you may be prompted to open recently automatically saved Session files for Sessions that did not exist cleanly. There has long been a list of “autosaved sessions” that you can import, but this will tell you if any session did not close well. * 2025.2.0 introduces a Generic XY Data Analysis Panel, for non-XAS data. You can now choose any X, Y arrays for a group as the XY data, and overplot several groups of scaled or unscaled datasets. And the Curve Fit Panel allows pretty generic curve-fitting for X, Y data. There have been many bug fixes and other improvements, too. As always, Mauro Rovezzi and Shelly Kelly and her group at the APS deserve a lot of credit for either making or inspiring these changes. There have also been bug reports and pull requests from a growing number of people. The GitHub repository is really the best place for this, but thanks to everyone. Issue with Athena – XANES Data Cannot Be Plotted in k

Dear Prof., I am facing an issue while processing my XAS data in Athena. When I load my dataset (Pt foil.dat), the software shows the message: “XANES data cannot be plotted in k” and it does not generate any plots at all. From what I understand, this usually occurs if the software does not recognize the correct element or edge. However, even after checking the energy range and parameters, the problem persists. I noticed that in my session Athena automatically set the element to W (74, Tungsten, L2-edge) instead of Pt (78, L3-edge). I am not sure if this mismatch is causing the issue, but I have been unable to correct it successfully. Could you please advise me on how to resolve this problem? Dear all, I am looking for Fe K-edge XAS spectra for K4[Fe(CN)6] and K3[Fe(CN)6] that I can use as standards for linear combination fitting. If anyone has the data and they don't mind sharing, I would be grateful.
