If you are awarded beamtime Onsite-Users : *** Based on the most recent CDC guidance, while onsite all individuals regardless of vaccination status are required to wear masks and must maintain a minimum of six feet distance from others. External users should be prepared to show proof of vaccination. ● ANL Site Access Policy : https://mailchi.mp/fbd1cb69fb1c/anl-site-access-requirements-for-cat-staff-… ● All onsite users must be registered APS users, have approved ANL site access and have taken all required APS safety training. ONLY TWO USERS ARE ALLOWED ONSITE TO RUN THE EXPERIMENT. ● Submit your Experiment Safety Assessment Form (ESAF) https://beam.aps.anl.gov/pls/apsweb/esaf0001.start_page ● Submit an Onsite User Request Form a minimum of TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO START OF BEAMTIME. https://www.aps.anl.gov/form/on-site-user-request-form Your ESAF will be approved by APS when the Onsite User Request has been approved. Submit both forms several weeks prior to your beamtime. Latest News from the Geosciences Synchrotron Steering Committee 1. We are pleased to announce that Professor Andrew Campbell <https://geosci.uchicago.edu/~campbell/> has been selected as the Principal Investigator for our upcoming proposal in response to the NSF solicitation on Synchrotron-based analytical capabilities advancing Earth and Environmental Sciences research and training<https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2021/nsf21592/nsf21592.htm>. Andy brings a strong track record of leadership, management experience, science advocacy and community service. The University of Chicago will serve as the host institution for the new organization. 2. The deadline for facility proposals<https://gsecars.uchicago.edu/synchrotron-geoscience/facility-proposals/> for the new organization has been extended by 1 week until October 22, 2021. 3. Studying the physical and chemical properties of rock-forming minerals at extreme pressure, stress and temperature conditions provides invaluable information for modeling the planetary interiors, as well as an insight on geological processes that still remain ongoing conundrums. Recent developments in static and dynamic state-of-the-art experimental methods elucidate fundamental properties (e.g. structure, melting, kinetics, elasticity, phase relations and others) of geo-materials and extend this research to previously inaccessible scales. Pioneer computational-theory in combination with high quality data and advanced analysis methods allow for the full assessment of countless plausible scenarios that describe micro- and macroscopic processes in various time-domains. This session welcomes contributions that highlight innovative experimental and analytical techniques that address a wide range of physical and chemical mineral properties, and enhance our understanding of the formation, structure and dynamics of the Earth's interior and other planetary bodies.
