Especially state-of-the-art large-area hybrid pixel photon-counting detectors offer exceptional signal-to-noise ratios, rapid data acquisition, and operational efficiency tailored to synchrotron-based applications. We are also excited to advertise our two invited presenters: Joshua Russell, Syracuse University Thomas Breithaupt, University of Cambridge Looking forward to seeing you in New Orleans, Lars Hansen (on behalf of all conveners) Max Bezada Colleen Dalton Hatsuki Yamauchi *Title:* Time-Dependency of Earth's Mechanical Behaviour: a Synthesis of Observational, Laboratory, and Theoretical Approaches *Abstract:* Description: To fit a multitude of geophysical observations, from seismic attenuation to post-glacial relaxation, Earth's mantle must respond to stress in a more complex fashion than a simple Maxwell (elastic + viscous) model. Understanding the time-dependent, "transient" response of rocks between these endmember regimes is essential for an accurate description of Earth's mechanical behaviour. Moreover, the precise nature of the transient behaviour encodes information about Earth's present thermodynamic state, microphysics, and even (via crystallographic fabrics and grain size) stress and strain history. We invite contributions from the seismology, geodesy, rock-physics, and geodynamics communities to evaluate and assimilate recent progress on understanding Earth’s transient mechanics. Particular topics of interest include (but are not limited to): new lab observations of, or theoretical descriptions for, grain-scale deformation; attenuation/viscosity anisotropy; the role of partial melt; multifrequency approaches that span orders of magnitude in frequency and space; and novel geophysical measurements that address Earth's transient mechanics.

Whether you work with experiments, computational models, or seismological data, if your research touches on the mantle or mantle phase transitions, this session is for you! Mantle Phase Transitions and their Impact on Convection, Evolution, and Interior Structure In this session, we explore how phase transitions influence everything from mantle convection and slab behavior to the evolution and internal structure of terrestrial bodies. We’ll feature invited talks from experts across multiple disciplines (seismology, geodynamics, and mineral physics): * Jonathan Wolf – University of California, Berkeley * Ranpeng Li – GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and Kiel University * Jin Zhang – Texas A&M University We welcome contributions from all related fields. We especially encourage early-career researchers and students to present their new and exciting research! Session Abstract: Mineral phase transitions in the mantle impact the dynamics, evolution, and structure of planetary interiors. These transitions—governed by variations in pressure, temperature, and composition—can influence large-scale mantle convection, promote thermal and chemical stratification, and produce seismic discontinuities. However, understanding the dynamic impacts of mineral transitions remains challenging due to uncertainties in phase boundaries, the role of water and volatiles, variations in mineral assemblages, and their effects on physical properties such as rheology and thermal conductivity. These tools are transforming our understanding of physical and chemical processes across spatial and temporal scales, both on Earth and other planetary bodies.This session invites contributions across a broad spectrum of methods and applications, including but not limited to: data compilation and mining, statistical modeling, classical and deep learning, explainable AI, and generative models applied to geophysics, geodynamics, geochemistry, structural geology, volcanology, petrology, and mineral physics. We encourage both novel machine learning methodologies addressing geoscientific challenges and innovative applications that provide new insights into Earth processes.
