Dear colleagues, The Petrology Group at the University of Bristol is actively looking to identify and support outstanding researchers who may wish to apply for independent research fellowships to be hosted with us. Our group offers a collaborative environment with exceptional experimental and analytical facilities and a friendly team of permanent academic staff, fellows, PDRAs, PhD students and technical staff. Our expertise spans experimental petrology, mineral physics, computational geodynamics and thermodynamic modelling. We sit within a School of Earth Sciences that also hosts world-renowned groups in geophysics and isotope geochemistry, as well as a vibrant volcanology group — all with strong collaborative links. Bristol Earth Sciences was ranked second in the country in REF2021, with 100% of our research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. There are many fellowship schemes that could support researchers joining us, at career stages from postdoctoral through to established PI. These include NERC Independent Research Fellowships, UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships, Royal Society University Research Fellowships and Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowships, Newton International Fellowships, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships, ERC Starting/Consolidator/Advanced Grants, and others. Dear colleagues, The Department of Geology and Geophysics at Texas A&M University is pleased to announce the Distinguished Michel T. Halbouty ’30 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Geology and Geophysics. Candidates should have a PhD in geology, geophysics or related field by the time of this appointment, be within 5 years of their PhD and have not held a permanent or tenured faculty position. Postdoctoral Research Associate will be based at the Texas A&M (TAMU) College Station campus, and they will engage with department faculty and students in research. The successful applicant will receive a one-year appointment as the Halbouty Postdoctoral Research Associate, with reappointment for a second year contingent upon research productivity and excellence. The Halbouty Postdoctoral Research Associate will receive a stipend of $65,000/yr plus benefits for up to two years, $6,500/yr for research and/or travel expenses during the same two years of their postdoctoral training. Additional research funding may be provided by postdoctoral advisor or other departmental sources. This appointment includes the opportunity to work across departments and programs in the College of Arts and Sciences and the broader university. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for conducting field, laboratory, and/or computer modeling studies to address research questions in the Geological and/or Geophysical Sciences. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will organize, analyze, and synthesize data and will write manuscripts and grants independently and cooperatively with Texas A&M faculty, staff and students. Applications should be submitted by May 1, 2026, to be considered for Postdoctoral Research Associate beginning in Summer or the Fall Semester of 2026. Applicants must identify a faculty sponsor from the tenured and tenure-track faculty of the Department of Geology and Geophysics, and coordinate with this sponsor to develop their research proposal. Faculty sponsors of successful postdoctoral candidates will ultimately serve as postdoctoral advisors and fund part of the postdoctoral stipend and research expenses. 2026 Workshop on High-Pressure Mineral Physics and Magmatic Petrology – Call for Applications

Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce the 2026 edition of the Workshop on High-Pressure Mineral Physics and Magmatic Petrology, designed for Master’s and Ph.D. students interested in experimental Earth sciences. The workshop will feature introductory lectures on key topics in mineral physics and magmatic petrology, combined with hands-on training in high-pressure experimental techniques. Participants will gain practical experience with piston-cylinder, multi-anvil, and diamond anvil cell experiments, as well as melt inclusion analysis. A dedicated session will also introduce synchrotron-based analytical techniques. Workshop Details Location: Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans, Clermont-Ferrand, France Dates: November 2 – 6, 2026 Costs Participation is free of charge. The workshop covers travel within mainland Europe, accommodation, breakfast, and lunch. Application Process Participation is limited to 15 students. Applicants will be selected based on the relevance of their academic background and research interests. The application deadline is June 15 , 2026.
