Dear Colleague,

  This message contains details of an e-mail mailing list which is
dedicated to messages of interest to the development of the FEFF
x-ray absorption codes and related software.  This FEFF development
mailing list is called    feffdevel     and is unmoderated.  Any message
posted to feffdevel will be received by all members of the list.
The list is maintained by the UW Listproc system.

  This  message may be circulated freely to any colleagues you feel would
be appropriate and/or interested in the feffdevel mailing list, and is also
being posted for archival purposes.

  Membership is not exclusively limited to FEFF code developers,
and is open to anyone with an interest in contributing to such software
and related developments.  Archives of list postings are presently open
to anyone, not just subscribers.

  The feffdevel list is not intended to cover topics primarily of interest
to general users of the FEFF codes and related software. A separate mailing
list is being created with that purpose in mind, and will take the
place of the old FEFF Notes and Comments.

  To send (post) messages to distribute to all members of the feffdevel
list,  e-mail your message to: feffdevel@u.washington.edu
with an appropriate subject line and signature.

  Please abide by the rules of list etiquette listed below, which is
taken from the UW WWW site. For more details and other information, e.g.,
list archives, commands, etc, see the URL:

  Subscribing to feffdevel

  To subscribe feffdevel, send an e-mail message with no subject and
the following single line in the message body:

subscribe feffdevel <your name> 

to         listproc@u.washington.edu 

where <your name> is your preferred name. (Do Not include the < > symbols.)
For example, J.J. Rehr  would send the one line e-mail message:

subscribe feffdevel J.J. Rehr

  Please send any comments and suggestions concerning the feffdevel list
to me at jjr@phys.washington.edu or, if appropriate, post them to feffdevel.
I am the official owner of the list and am responsible for list configuration
and other issues.

The following are general guidelines that should be observed when posting
messages to a ListProc mailing list. 

* Meaningful Subject Line

  When sending messages to a ListProc mailing list, please make
  sure that they have a clear and descriptive entry on the
  "Subject:" line. 

* Include a Signature

  Please be sure to sign your full name at the bottom of your
  posting and include your affiliation(s) and e-mail address. Some
  subscribers may receive their e-mail messages with the header
  information stripped away by their local system and
  therefore cannot know the author of a particular posting. 

* Provide Context

  Every posting should begin with a clear introduction to the
  topic, or offer some kind of reference to the topic or a previous
  posting. There are often several "threads" of discussion going on
  simultaneously, which makes unreferenced postings confusing to readers. 

  A popular way of providing context is to quote verbatim from the
  original message. However, keep the quotations *short*
  and *relevant*. Quoting whole messages, signatures and all, can
  be inconsiderate. 

* Humor

  Humor is appreciated, but please remember that humor in email can
  easily be misinterpreted. One way to express emotion is
  to use smilies. For example: humorous :-) , ironic ;-) , or sad :-( . 

* Appropriate Use

  The feffdevel mailing lists is an "unmoderated" list. This means
  that what members post goes directly to the other members.
  In order to keep lists uncensored, it is important that only
  pertinent messages are posted to the list. Members whose messages
  do not meet minimum expectations will be notified, and may be
  excluded permanently from future participation. 

* Personal Mail

  Just as it is important to try to share public information with
  the whole group, private correspondence should remain just
  that -- private. Send personal messages directly to individuals,
  not by way of the list.
