my first message!
Hi all,
This is sort of a test to see that the list is indeed working.
I think there should be a message on the FEFF home page that is not
buried too deeply about the existence of this list inviting serious
developers to join the discussion. By serious developers, I mean
people like Ressler and George (who write analysis packages), Bouldin
(who actually helped with code in an upcoming release), perhaps
even Filiponi and Binsted (who work on competing theory codes), and
others who may want to jump in the fray.
I would also like to know who is on the list. Since admission to the
list appears to be subject to John's approval, it is a select crew.
On a community list, I can appreciate that lurkers deserve their
privacy. But are there actually going to be lurkers on this list? If
not, then I would like to know who I am speaking to.
Where and how is this list being archived? That was not clear in the
automated response I got to my subscription request.
Are there rules of conduct on this list? I presume that, say, the
weather is not suitable traffic on this list. It would be prudent for
John to send out a message of greeting to new list members which lays
out the ground rules. I actually have some experience with managing
these lists (from my days as an officer of the kayak club at the UW)
and am happy to offer advice on the topic of setting policy for
discussion on these lists.
