Hello High Pressure Community: Registration for the FORCE 2024 Winter Workshop is now open: https://bit.ly/FORCEww24reg The Workshop will be held Jan. 3–4, 2024 at Arizona State University, with support from Corning and Advanced Diamond Products. Info and deadlines below! Please pass on this email to anyone who might be interested in this event. • The Workshop will begin 8–9 am Jan. 3 and will adjourn by 4 pm on Jan. 4th. • Hotel info is being finalized and will be sent at a later date • Invited talks (confirmed thus far) • Dr. Tetsuo Irifune, Director of the Geodynamics Research Center and Distinguished Professor, Ehime University, Japan • Dr. Irifune is a mineral physicist and deep Earth petrologist who uses large volume press to study characteristics of the mantle and has greatly advanced the field with such innovations as the development of superhard nano-polycrystalline diamonds. Dr. Irifune’s lab is home to Botchan, Ichiban’s big brother. • Dr. Megumi Kawasaki, Associate Professor, Oregon State University, USA • Dr. Kawasaki is a materials scientist who studies severe plastic deformation using the high pressure torsion press (Twister). • Dr. Carl Agee, Former President of COMPRES, Director of the Institute of Meteoritics and Professor, University of New Mexico • Poster session: some abstracts will be elevated to talks if the schedule allows. • Dec. 1, midnight MST: deadline to submit an abstract and be considered for a talk (you must also be registered to be considered for a talk) • A link to the abstract submission form will be included in your registration confirmation email • We are able to offer two student poster awards of $250 each. Thank you, Corning! • Tours will be given of the new FORCE Press Hall and key ASU analytical facilities • Group discussion/breakout sessions • Student travel assistance is available on a limited basis, thanks to our sponsors.
