first "official" relezse of my new software
Hi everyone, Today I am announcing my first official release of my latest version of my XAS data processing and analysis software. The package is called Demeter, the version number is 0.9.9, and it includes new versions of Athena, Artemis, and Hephaestus. In many ways, these are much like the versions of the software that have been in use for almost a decade. In many ways, however, they offer important improvements, including better plotting, prettier GUIs, and lots of new analysis features. For those using Windows, you can download the installer package from https://github.com/bruceravel/demeter/downloads For those using Linux, installation instructions can be found at http://bruceravel.github.com/demeter/pods/installation.pod.html I am hoping that installer packages for the Mac and for specific Linux distributions will become available in the coming months. The Demeter versions of the programs can coexist on a computer with the old versions. New Athena and old Athena peacefully coexist, indeed, they use the same project file format. The project file format for new Artemis is different, however new Artemis can import project files from old Artemis. I am no longer developing the old versions. I will no longer fix bugs or add new features to the old versions. All of my future develop efforts will be devoted to the new versions. thanks Bruce! I hope to be able to use the OS X version soon! Congratulations! Stefano
Yes -- Thanks Bruce! It looks great. For OS X : I'm not sure if anyone else has tried to get Demeter working on OS X. It's been a few months (and fairly busy with non-Ifeffit things) since I've tried to build Demeter on OS X. I ran into some problems trying with wxPerl, and tried a couple different "Perl for OS X" variations. My recollection is that there were slightly different problems with the different combinations. As for Windows (and the current iXAFS app), the idea would be to have a dedicated, isolated version of Perl that ran Demeter etc. Once that works, packaging it into an App is not hard (or, at least a solved problem). I'll try again, but if anyone out there is interested in trying to work on this, that would be a big help. --Matt
Dear Bruce, thanks a lot for this new version and for your engagement in the Free Software cause. Your softwares Athena, Artemis and Atoms have been a corner stone in my research in the last 10 years. Thanks a lot also to Matt Newville for IFEFFIT. Kind regards, Ismael Graff.

Thanks a lot also to Matt Newville for IFEFFIT.
Ismael, Thank you for mentioning that. I neglected to do so in my email. Obviously, there wouldn't be an Athena or an Artemis without an Ifeffit. Matt does a lot for all of us. B PS: Did everyone notice how I misspelled "release" in the subject line? Yup, this is certainly a quality operation I'm running here! :)
I'll second that. All hail Bruce and whoever else contributed. mam On 4/21/2012 5:09 AM, Ismael Graff wrote:
