Re: [Ifeffit] Mac installer for 10.4 with horae-048
Paul, Is Perl/Tk for 5.8.6 included in the 10.4 installer? Do you have any suggestions for Stefano? Stefano: the Ifeffit apps from the 10.3 installer won't work directly with 10.4. With the 10.3 package installed, several people were able to build horae from source -- see the mailing list archives for directions on how this was done. But I sure hope you don't need to do this. The installer should work. I sort of don't understand what happened to break these apps. It was working for you once, right??? I sort of don't understand what happened. --Matt
The entire /Library/Perl is included with the installer. You can see the list of files that are included upon starting up the installer (from the file menu I believe). You don't need to actually get to the point where the installation starts to see the files. I will remake another version to make sure everything is intact. It will probably take a couple of days (the day job). Paul On Dec 1, 2005, at 23:42 PM, Matt Newville wrote:

Paul, I think that the problem is with the installer. Here is what happens CONSISTENTLY: 1) I start with Ifeffit 1.2.7 and horae-058, and everything is smooth. 2) I download the ifeffit-1.2.8_Mac10.4.dmg file from Sourceforge and run the Installer 3) After that, when I launch athena from the command line I get the message: 4) The situation is reverted by deleting the /Applications/Ifeffit folder AND the /Library/Perl folder) and copying the same folders from a backup I always keep (lucky me) 5) after that, I go back to Ifeffit 1.2.7 and horae-058 and everything works again I hope this helps you making a working installer for 10.4 :-) Stefano -- ____________________________________________ Stefano Ciurli Professor of Chemistry Laboratory of Bioinorganic Chemistry Department of Agro-Environmental Science and Technology University of Bologna Viale Giuseppe Fanin, 40 I-40127 Bologna Italy Phone: +39-051-209-6204 Fax: +39-051-209-6203 "Fatti non foste a viver come bruti, ma per seguir virtute e canoscenza" Dante Alighieri - Inferno - Canto XXVI "Ihr seid bestimmt, nicht Tieren gleich zu leben, Nein, Tugend zu erringen und Erkenntnis" "Ye were not form'd to live the life of brutes, But virtue to pursue and knowledge high"
Hi Paul, I think that the installer is not writing files to /Library/Perl/. I've seen this on one Powerbook running 10.4. I'll try it on a desktop as soon as I get a chance. Could this be a permissions issue??? I now have access to a 10.4 machine and may be able to build an installer for 10.4 this week. Sorry to all you Mac users: I've also been out of town and am now supporting users, so haven't had a lot of time to get to this. --Matt
I have rebuilt the Mac OS 10.4 installer. I had been using a copy of feffit-1.2.8 from Matt's installer, but now I have rebuilt ifeffit-1.2.8 from scratch on 10.4 (turns out the configure breaks as the new version of head doesn't like the "head -1" option anymore). There are also the conflicts saveFP and restFP which arise from conflicting gcc4 and gcc3 libraries. I resolved all of these problems, built a new version of the files, confirmed it works (on my laptop) and (will shortly) upload the results to sourceforge. The files for perl in /Library/Perl/5.8.6/ are certainly all there now (although they were there before I think). The permissions are alright (by the way I think the installer for 10.3 sets the permissions for /Applications incorrectly -- they should be 0775). I would be grateful if someone could try the new installer and see if it works any better now. Paul On Dec 14, 2005, at 13:29 PM, Matt Newville wrote:

Paul, I am willing to try the installer as soon as you tell me that I can download it Stefano -- ____________________________________________ Stefano Ciurli Professor of Chemistry Laboratory of Bioinorganic Chemistry Department of Agro-Environmental Science and Technology University of Bologna Viale Giuseppe Fanin, 40 I-40127 Bologna Italy Phone: +39-051-209-6204 Fax: +39-051-209-6203 "Fatti non foste a viver come bruti, ma per seguir virtute e canoscenza" Dante Alighieri - Inferno - Canto XXVI "Ihr seid bestimmt, nicht Tieren gleich zu leben, Nein, Tugend zu erringen und Erkenntnis" "Ye were not form'd to live the life of brutes, But virtue to pursue and knowledge high"
That would be great. Beware that you may have to delete the ifeffit installer receipt from the /Library/Receipts folder if you manually did anything behind the installer's back before (or else the installer assumes that the files are in the places specified by the receipt). I am uploading the file right now and it should be finished in a couple of minutes. Paul On Dec 14, 2005, at 18:45 PM, Stefano Ciurli wrote:

The mac installer has been updated on sourceforge. It (hopefully) should work better now. Paul
Hi Paul, this is exactly what I did: 1) starting with the same Ifeffit 1.2.7 and horae-058 working properly 2) removed the ifeffit installer receipt from the /Libray/Receipts folder 3) did NOT remove the previous /Applications/Ifeffit folder 4) downloaded the installer package for 10.4 from sourceforge 5) run the installer 6) run athena either from the command line or clicking on the icon. 7) I obtain the following message: stefano% athena Can't load '/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/auto/Ifeffit/Ifeffit.bundle' for module Ifeffit: dlopen(/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/auto/Ifeffit/Ifeffit.bundle, 1): Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/AquaTerm.framework/Versions/A/AquaTerm Referenced from: /Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/auto/Ifeffit/Ifeffit.bundle Reason: image not found at /System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/DynaLoader.pm line 230. at /Applications/Ifeffit/bin/athena line 54 Compilation failed in require at /Applications/Ifeffit/bin/athena line 54.
