Hi folks, I think somethings is broken with Tk. As reported in my previous e-mail I found a problem (I have not before 1st june!) with the space group browser of Atoms. In fact I have the same error with Artemis when pressing the fit button! The following message was trapped by Artemis: Artemiswarn/Users/mjaouen/.horae/stash/ARTEMIS.TRAPCODE(0x1e18a84) at /Applications/Ifeffit/bin/artemis line 1491 main::__ANON__('Tk::Error: unknown option "background" at /Library/Perl/ 5.8.1...') called at blib/lib/Tk.pm (autosplit into blib/lib/auto/Tk/Error.al) l ine 488 Tk::Error('MainWindow=HASH(0x61e5d8)','unknown option "background" at /Library/Perl/5.8.1/darwin-thr...','Tk callback for .sgb.frame','Tk callback for . sgb.frame.ysbslice','Tk callback for .sgb.frame.ysbslice.corner','Tk callback for ..sgb','Tk callback for .sgb.button1','Tk callback for .frame.menubutton5.menu', 'Tk::__ANON__ at /Library/Perl/5.8.1/darwin-thread-multi-2leve...',...) called at /Library/Perl/5.8.1/darwin-thread-multi-2level/Tk.pm line 406 eval {...} called at /Library/Perl/5.8.1/darwin-thread-multi-2level/Tk.pm line 406 Tk::MainLoop() called at /Applications/Ifeffit/bin/artemis line 1627 What makes me crazy is that all was running smoothly before tuesday :-) Cheers Michel -- __________________________________________ Michel Jaouen Universite de Poitiers - UFR Sciences - SP2MI LMP UMR 6630-CNRS Boulevard Pierre et Marie Curie - Teleport 2 BP 30179 86962 Futuroscope - Chasseneuil Cedex France Tel : (33) 5 49 49 67 37 Fax : (33) 5 49 49 66 92 e-mail : Michel.Jaouen@univ-poitiers.fr __________________________________________

There is a bug in the space group browser that is manifested using perl/Tk 804, which is what was used to build the Mac installer. I have been cleaning up syntax problems related to the upgrade to 804 as I become aware of them. Now I am aware of the ones in the space group browser. It's not difficult to fix, but as I said yesterday, I won't have time to do so for many weeks. You will just have to consider the space group browser to be broken on the Mac in the latest release. MJ> In fact I have the same error with Artemis when pressing the fit MJ> button! As for the fit button not working, I just pressed it on my G4. It worked fine for me. I am getting weary of explaining on this list how to submit a bug report, but I'll run over the salient points ... one .... more ... time: 1. If I cannot reproduce your problem, I cannot solve it. 2. Explain to me what actions you took leading up to the problem you are reporting. 3. Send me any information, trap files are certainly a good start, that will help me understand what went wrong. 4. Send me a project file so I can see the problem happen on one of my computers. 5. If I cannot reproduce your problem, I cannot solve it. I know I said that already, but it seems I cannot say it enough -- I still regularly get "bug reports" that are little more "It done got broke." Here again is the whole story on bug reports: http://leonardo.phys.washington.edu/~ravel/software/exafs/bugs.html Read the links in the "How to report bugs" box. They're there for a reason. Although I won't be able to address your bug report soon, it will not be ignored. I will be keeping track of the bug reports that come in while I am gone.
