Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your quick suggestions and for identifying the problem that it will not ever be fixed, I have installed the Athena software in Windows 7 in Virtualbox and all the files are opening smoothly without any issue. I concur with Matt about Larch.

And at the risk of irking Matt, you could try forcing the use of Ifeffit. While maybe not the best choice, it would isolate problems with Demeter from problems with Larch and your python installation.

You can use ifeffit. It is just not supported and has known limitations and problems that will not ever be fixed.
