Dear Bruce, Thanks for the swift reply. Sorry for any confusion - the installation of other versions of Strawberry Perl was carried out as a diagnostic step after Demeter failed. After a bit more digging it's turned out that the problem is a variant of the one described here: http://cars.uchicago.edu/ifeffit/Demeter/MingwFix The software it was conflicting with was GnuPG (http://www.gnupg.org/) which presumably uses MinGW. Following the instructions given in the link above to move GnuPG below Strawberry Perl has resolved the issue. I hope this is helpful to anyone else that else that experiences this error. That said, I am troubled by this:
I have tried installing the latest version of Strawberry Perl (I have tried both the x86 and x64 version, I have an x64 system)
My package is built using a specific version of Strawberry. If you have installed some other release of Strawberry *and* my package, I can imagine that weird things could happen. My advice is to purge anything having to do with any version of Strawberry from your machine and start from scratch. Make sure that after you have run the uninstaller that you also manually remove any files still left behind in C:\strawberry or where ever things got installed on your computer. As I said a couple of weeks ago, I am not able to do much more than this to help with a Windows specific problem. I am still furloughed due to the shutdown of the US government and unable to go into work. I do not have any Windows computers at home. Until I get to work again, all I can do is sit on this sidelines and offer advice about things like this. B On 10/15/2013 11:32 AM, Godfrey, Ian wrote:
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has encountered the following error (screenshot attached) while trying to run Demeter applications (it seems to occur at least for both Artemis and Athena) under Windows 8. I know other members of my group have successfully managed to run Demeter under Windows 8 but have not encountered this message.:
"perl.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point __gxx_personality_v0 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\strawberry\perl\site\lib\auto\Wx\Wx.dll"
I have run the installer under Windows XP compatibility mode and used the Windows Compatibility Troubleshooter to no avail. I have tried installing the latest version of Strawberry Perl (I have tried both the x86 and x64 version, I have an x64 system) - this changes the symptoms so that the command prompts appear briefly on screen and then disappear. Re-running the Demeter installer than causes the original error message to begin appearing again. I have run all the installers as admin and have tried setting perl.exe both to admin and compatibility mode. I have authorised all UAC prompts that appear.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Ian Godfrey
