Dear Marcelo,
I just installed the new 1.2.8 for windows version of ifeffit and I am experiencing problems to run any of the programs associated (arthemis, athena, etc.). I installed the programs in a Win98 machine where the previous versions of IFEFFIT were running. I took care of adding the suggested line to the config.sys file and installed the program in c:\ifeffit (as suggested). However, both, starting from the icons in the desktop, from the applications installed at c:\ifeffit\bin or from the menu at the start, the runner program (installed with the pakage) send an error message forcing to abort the run.
This is the first I've heard of someone trying this on Windows98. It might be that it just plain won't work. I understand that not everyone has a choice, but Windows98 is really old. We've always had support issues with Win98. Someday it will break completely. That day may have been last week. Neither Bruce nor I consider Windows98 compatability as a priority. Because of this, it will take work on both of our to try to get this to work. Really, the problem will not get fixed without your help. I'm sending this to the whole list, but if you want to move this conversation offline, that's fine. If you want to pursue this, try to run runner.exe from a dos shell, and send me back the results: C:\> cd ifeffit\bin C:\ifeffit\bin> runner.exe What messages come out? If there are too many messages to capture, do this: C:\ifeffit\bin> runner.exe > OUT and send that file. Thanks, --Matt
