As for the inability to move into/out of directories, the following error message may help to track down its cause:
Tk::Error: Can't locate Tk/ListBrowse.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0 .) at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/Tk/Widget.pm line 270.
I suspect that some ListBrowse.pm and Unselect.pm files are missing.
Joon, Thanks for the info. This morning I used CPAN to install the latest perl/Tk on one of my computers. I am now seeing all the same problems that you and Paul have been reporting. Some of them were pretty obvious, others (like this one) are kind of confusing to me. I'll nail down all these issues soon enough. Unfortunately, I am quite busy this week with some administrative responsibilities here at work and so will not be able to address these issues for several days. Patience! Until then, I recommend that you use the work-around I suggested earlier today. As a reminder, I have an older version of perl/Tk on my web site: http://leonardo.phys.washington.edu/~ravel/misc/Tk-800.024.tar.gz If you install that, Athena and Artemis should work. If you have other software that requires the very latest perl/Tk -- I apologize for the inconvenience.
