Call for proposals for inclusion in a new organization for synchrotron-hosted analytical facilities for Earth Sciences
Dear Colleagues, Please see the attached for a solicitation for proposals from existing and new facilities to be considered for inclusion in a proposal for a new organization for synchrotron-hosted analytical facilities for Earth Sciences. Regards, Tom Duffy on behalf of Geosciences Synchrotron Steering Committee
Dear Geosciences Synchrotron Steering Committee,
I have a couple of comments for the proposal you are putting together but they don't really fit in with the paperwork you sent out, so I thought I would just send a brief email instead.
Ones of the things I am most interested in is the duplication of the Maia end station on other synchrotrons within the US, so that my research can be performed at more than one beamline.
The other issue I am running into is that I collect my data using the Maia detector on the Australian synchrotron but have had issues accessing the supercomputer in Australia to connect to the processing software GeoPixe to continue to deal with my data and prepare it for publication.
So I would like to see a way to request access to processing software and supercomputer facilities even if you collected your data somewhere else.
As otherwise when people move country or even institution, the data can become trapped as you can no longer process it.
Also post-processing training workshops that are separate from your beamtime. As when you are at the beamline there is not normally enough time to receive lots of processing training whilst you are collecting your data.
Not sure where these suggestions come within the grand scheme of what you are putting together, but wanted to make the committee aware of the issues I have ran into since moving to the US with my previously collected synchrotron data.
Warmest regards
Angela Halfpenny

Funny you should mention MAIA-384…
just starting install at downstream station of XFM Beamline at NSLS-II.
Still a ways to go ;-)
