There is no such thing in Athena's column selection dialog as an "xmu" 
option.

There is a "mu(E)" option and an "xmu.dat" option.  The former is for 
XAS data with the expectation that it will betreated as EXAFS data (as 
opposed to the "xanes" option, which disables background removal for the 
data group).  The latter is for the xmu.dat file that Feff writes out.

That even made it into the document!
