Dear SEES members,
UC Santa Cruz, in conjunction with the
SEES consortium, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in
X-ray imaging and/or rock physics/rock mechanics, who will work under the direction of Professor Quentin Williams. The position will be on-site in Berkeley, California.
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute scientific and technical skills to synchrotron research projects in the area of rock mechanics/deformation at the Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory (LBNL) Advanced Light Source’s microtomography beamline 8.3.2. The possibility exists for additional collaborations at micro-Laue diffraction beamline 12.3.2, which includes capabilities such as texture analysis and grain orientation. This role
involves designing, executing and writing-up experiments, generating technical innovations and equipment modifications, and collaborating with synchrotron users to support a range of geological research projects. As a result, the position will require the
postdoctoral researcher to consistently demonstrate excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
We particularly seek applicants with prior expertise in X-ray imaging (and particularly tomography) of inorganic samples, optimally with instrument or software development experience.
Experience in rock physics/rock mechanics is desirable. Familiarity with image analysis/processing (including multi- dimensional) is particularly preferred.
