25 Sep '26

Hi folks, Happy Friday! Reminder that new proposals AND beamtime requests (BTRs) for existing NSLS-II proposals are due Wednesday 30-Sept (before midnight ET). If you get a chance, check out this mind-blowing paper on evolution of the iron cycle (10.1073/pnas.2608784123). Cheers, XFM team ________________________________ Subject: ORCID show Hi folks, Please see the important announcement below from our User Office RE: ORCID. If you don't have ORCID ID then can obtain one here (ORCID<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://orcid.org/__;!!G_uCfscf7eWS!fkT0Pn2YFpt2… >). Cheers, XFM team ________________________________ From: NSLS-II User Office <nslsuser(a)bnl.gov> Sent: Tuesday, April 7, 2026 7:34 AM To: LSUSER-L <LSUSER-L(a)lists.bnl.gov>; LBMS-EM <lbms-em(a)bnl.gov> Subject: Reminder: Important changes to the NSLS-II and LBMS proposal system beginning April 15, 2026 Dear NSLS-II and LBMS Users, We are writing to let you know about upcoming changes to the Proposal Allocation Safety and Scheduling (PASS) system that will begin on April 15, 2026. 1. ORCID login to PASS: Beginning April 15, 2026, user will only be able to log in to the PASS systems using ORCID or a BNL domain account. Gmail and InCommon will no longer be login options. What do I need to do if I currently use Gmail or InCommon to login to PASS? * If you have not already connected your ORCID to your PASS account, or you’re not sure, we urge you to connect your ORCID by logging into PASS through Gmail or InCommon before April 15th. * If you have already connected your ORCID to your PASS account, no further action is needed. 2. New PASS profiles: In the past, many users have logged into PASS with multiple email addresses, resulting in multiple PASS accounts for a single user. With the institution of ORCID authentication, each user will now have a PASS “profile” that combines any multiple accounts into a single account based on the ORCID. Upon logging into PASS after April 15th, you will see a “My Profile” tab in your account, with a list all email addresses that have been associated with prior proposals. This will ensure that you will have access to all of your proposals in a single account based on your ORCID. 3. Guest appointments will require institution email addresses upon registration: All new users and users renewing their appointments will be required to provide an institution email on their guest registration form. Non-affiliation accounts, such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. will no longer be accepted. If you have any questions, please email nsls2user(a)bnl.gov<mailto:nsls2user@bnl.gov> or call 631-344-8737.

[Snap-users] SNAP Beamline: 2027-A Call for Proposals
by Moreira dos Santos, Antonio 14 Sep '26

14 Sep '26

Dear Colleagues, The SNAP beamline is now accepting proposals for the 2027-A beamtime call at ORNL's neutron user facilities. The submission deadline is Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM EST. Approved proposals will be scheduled for experiments taking place from February through May 2027. SNAP is the dedicated extreme-conditions neutron diffractometer at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). The instrument supports both powder and single-crystal diffraction measurements across a broad range of pressure and temperature conditions. An overview of the instrument and its capabilities is available on our website<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://neutrons.ornl.gov/snap/sample__;!!G_uCfs… >. We strongly encourage prospective users to contact the beamline staff<mailto:snap@ornl.gov?subject=USER%20Contact> before submitting a proposal to discuss the details and feasibility of their experiment. If you are unsure whether your desired pressure-temperature conditions are accessible, please feel free to reach out informally to a member of the SNAP team<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://neutrons.ornl.gov/snap/team__;!!G_uCfscf… >. Mail-in proposals: SNAP also offers a mail-in program for room-temperature powder diffraction measurements using the Paris-Edinburgh press. Mail-in proposals may be submitted at any time and should be limited in scope, with priority given to projects that can deliver timely, high-impact results or provide preliminary data in support of future beamtime proposals. Additional information about the mail-in program is available here<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://neutrons.ornl.gov/snap/mail-in__;!!G_uCf… >.
