Dear SEES Users, We are excited to announce the first ever SEES Multigrain Single Crystal Workshop, to be held at the University of Chicago on August 8-9, 2026, in conjunction with the 2026 SEES-FORCE Joint Meeting<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://seescience.org/latest-happenings/annual-… >. In this workshop, SEES beamline scientists Stella Chariton, Vitali Prakapenka, and Dongzhou Zhang will cover the principles of single- and multigrain diffraction techniques, sample preparation, crystal growth, and data collection at ambient and high pressures while providing overview lectures and tutorials on modern crystallography software (CrysAlisPro, DAFi, APEX, Vesta, OleX2, and Shelx). Keynote speakers will discuss topics in high-pressure mineral physics, and there will be a poster session with a broad scientific focus. All SEES and FORCE researchers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Shipping Delays for samples sent to SEES Facilities

Dear Colleagues, We wanted to make our SEES user community aware of recent shipping delays you may encounter in sending samples to our facilities at DOE National Labs. In particular, we have been advised that some samples being sent to us from outside the US are being held up at U.S. Customs. In these cases, the guidance we have from our Export Control experts at the labs is that when sending samples to us from abroad, make sure that the description you provide of what is in the package is not vague, avoiding descriptions that can be misinterpreted by Customs. Use truthful and accurate descriptions that a layman can read and understand and that looks like the physical item being shipped. If samples are held up at Customs, there is very little we can do to help. A good example of a detailed and accurate description: Non-hazardous, non-infectious, inorganic soil research samples; 3 sealed plastic containers containing dried soil aliquots (approximately 50 g each); for scientific research and laboratory characterization only; not for human, animal, clinical, agricultural, or commercial use; no commercial value except for customs clearance." Given these delays, we strongly recommend for these items, if possible, to ship them early to make sure they are available at the beamline when you arrive for beamtime. And, of course, keep your beamline scientists informed, and in the loop, so we can help.
