Hi, Matt,

I setup a homepage for Portable Ifeffit + Portable Python.

Hi, Matt,

you are right ---- it is portable for windows (tested XP, vista, win7). I do not like to carry my laptop around when there are a lot of windows desktops around, so I made some of my daily program portable in my flash card of galaxy tab.For Ifeffit, I did not do much actually.

For Portable python, I updated the paths, environment var to relative ones --- need to keep portable python and ifeffit to make it work(reason 1).  (For installed python, please install ifeffit module here:http://cars9.uchicago.edu/ifeffit/Python)

Since sometimes ifeffit automatic update did not work very well for me(reason2) and I keep them in same portable folder(reason1), it is convenient for me to just zip them and upload to dropbox, which will be working out of box.

The dropbox link will be quite stable. I will update it with homepage and better link when i have time.

Best,

Jack (Geliang) Song

Hi Jack,

Thanks for posting that -- it looks like an interesting distribution
method.   If I understand correctly, it looks like "Portable" here
means a dropbox-distributed Windows distribution, with some added
batch files.   Is that correct?

For the Python module, it looks like you're distributing a full Python
installations -- wouldn't it be simpler to have people install a
standard python distribution (of their choosing,  perhaps  the
numpy/scipy-enhanced Enthought distribution) and just add the
PythonIfeffit module installer in the dropbox-distribution?

Anyway, thanks, that looks like a useful way to install Ifeffit on
Windows machines.    One question for you would be: Are those URLs
stable enough to put on the Ifeffit Download wiki page?

Cheers,

--Matt
