Hi Anatoly,

I'm not into alcohol, but since XAFS has taken over my life recently... Do you know the structure of red wine? Is the shortest and most dominant path length about 2.5A? (I just want to see how accurate this quick analysis is...) After Ritimukta mentioned it, I just had to do the data analysis to satisfy my own curiosity...

Yeah it's totally wrong... I looked up how long a C-C single bond length is and Google's telling me it's 1.5A... I probably should have set the k=20 point to the left a little more... Well that happened...

I mean, the r-space data's not looking too right now, but (maaaaybe?) good enough to fit a model to... (I actually don't have time to try fitting this...)

Unexpectedly enthusiastic responses on the wine post... seriously, though, it reminded me on the times when I was an editorial board member of Journal of Spectroscopy. In a sincere attempt to help the journal raise its impact factor I rejected every proposal for an invited issue, except for one.  It was “Spectroscopy of wine”, of course.

Should probably collect the data in triplicate….

I thought this mailing list is an appropriate venue to post a picture of the bottle of wine I bought yesterday in a store on Long Island.
