Hi,
I deleted the demeter.mru file and that seems to have done the trick! I can now open project files without having Artemis crash. Thank you so much for your help! I did not anticipate such an easy or quick fix.

I have attached the corrupted .mru file as you have requested and hope this issue is resolved soon.

Once again, I really appreciate your assistance.

Thank you,
Kurinji

Kurinji,

I cannot reproduce your problem on a computer running the same
installer version that you say you are using.  I can open the project
file you attached with no problem.

The error message from the log file suggests that the problem happens
when Artemis attempts to write to the %APPDATA%\demeter\demeter.mru
file.  That is the file that is used to manage the "Recent files"
menus in Artemis and Athena.  It would seem that the data in that file
has become corrupted.

It might be sufficient to simply delete the demeter.mru file.  That
would certainly be the easiest thing to try.

You said:

The problem began to occur when I updated my operating system.

The evidence you have shared so far does not indicate that there is a
problem with Artemis.  I don't know why updating your computer would
damage one of Demeter's files, but I have no way of knowing what
happened when you did your update.

Here's what I would recommend:

  1. Delete the demeter.mru file and see if that solves the problem

  2. Delete the entire %APPDATA%\demeter folder (*just* the demeter
folder, *not* all of %APPDATA%!) and let Demeter recreate it the
next time you launch Artemis or Athena

I guess you could then try reinstalling Demeter, although the evidence
suggests that the problem is corruption of content in
%APPDATA%\demeter, which would not get fixed by reinstalling Demeter.

In the absence of a hint as to what caused the corruption of the
demeter.mru file, there isn't really anything else I can do to help
you, I'm afraid.

It would be helpful to me to have a copy of the corrupted demeter.mru
file for examination.  That way I might be able to teach Demeter to
detect and avoid the problem.

The problem began to occur when I updated my operating system. Prior to
the update, the program was running fine but after the update, it
refused to open any project files( Both Artemis project files and Athena
project files). I am attaching a project file which I am unable to open.

Thank you!

    Kurinji,

Could this be similar to the conversation discussed at

It does appear quite possible to "break" an Artemis project file in
such a way that it cannot be re-opened by Artemis.    This can
happen if one does a fit and then re-runs Feff.    I don't know
enough about the layout of the project files to know why this happens.

But, it would be most helpful if you gave more details (like, what
operating system and Artemis version your using) and included a
project file that showed the problem.
