Thanks for the link to the matlab code!  I hadn't seen that. Translating this code to Python shouldn't be too hard.... any volunteers for that?

You should check the MATLAB script made by Manuel MUÑOZ, François FARGES and Pierre ARGOUL.

I think you have such freedom of choice you looking for. It works pretty well!
