The Center for Advanced Radiation Sources is a department-level center of the University of Chicago. CARS operates sectors 13, 14 and 15 of the Advanced Photon Source (APS), a high-brilliance synchrotron X-ray source at Argonne National Laboratory. Our cutting-edge facilities are available to users worldwide.

Dedicated to state-of-the-art research on earth materials.

A dual undulator upgrade is nearing completion.  Four experimental stations are currently available to users (13-IDC, 13-IDD, 13-BMC, 13-BMD).

Bio feature

Dedicated to synchrotron-based dynamic studies in structural biology and physical sciences.

Current work on the 14-ID beamline emphasizes time-resolved X-ray scattering techniques with 100ps time-resolution.
